I worked with a family not long ago, a grandmother, a mother, a daughter, and their aunt, and we cleaned out their jewelry box.
They had things in there that were broken. They had things they would never, ever wear. And they had things they didn’t even know where they came from.
I asked them if there was anything in this jewelry box that was sentimental that they would like to use.
At first, they had kind of discarded it all in their minds because they didn’t think they could ever wear it again.
And I said, “No, let’s take some of the stones from this jewelry. Let’s add some new ones. Let’s make a design.”
So that’s what we did.
We took stones from pieces they weren’t going to wear again, added some new ones, and started designing around what they wanted to keep.
We ended up with four necklaces. One for each of them.
The old jewelry didn’t have to stay exactly as it was for the part that mattered to stay with them.
